Yonex, All england - Just testing…
A great track by FAITHLESS
I thought, as a mate said to me, even though you don’t have enough hours in the day to keep all this stuff rolling - “what matters to you?”… Well, I need to have a place to get all of this stuff out of my head, so, blogger.gtvone.com stays. Facebook - yeah, marketing tool - not for the clients I’m after, it’s gone. Twitter - handy resource, stays… MySpace… well, more about connecting with musicians for me and not so much an every day thing, so that Stays… The big thing on the list is DPS - DPS, what is it? My daily forum that I look after, a forum of 24k photographers, just starting out photographers and a hand full of Pros too. DPS stays… Infact, I’d say that DPS would go second if it were a competition between that and my “day job”
[insert resolute stare here] Talking to another controlling friend, i.e. a friend that I listen to and respect, though some days he cracks me up with his decisions! We get talking about this whole DPS thing….[is there a picture here somewhere?!]
…anyway, he seems to think that I should put a deadline on DPS, I mean, if DPS does take up all my time, at some point I am going to need to either commit to it full time’ish or let it go a bit… Right now this isn’t on the table, it’s something I love doing, so, for now I will continue. At the same time, I guess it would be fair to say that DPS needs to commit to me, too? Or, does it? - There are many more of “me” right? No, not really… Hell, I take my blackberry in the shower, I’m online pretty much most of every day… So, well… I’m not going to stop my online presence, that’s a bad idea - but - I’m going to try and use my time better.
I have a day job, and as such, I have to keep it because it pays the bills and nothing else does… DPS gets me a couple of free books and a bag from time to time, but having the bills and needing to pay them isn’t going away. I don’t really like what I do anymore, I’d give it up in a minute, actually. Right now might not be the right time to do that though, so, I need to focus on things I love to take my mind off the things that I don’t.
I was thinking about it, maybe I could try more photography, or, some photography at all - I need to get some cards and I need to start selling myself. I can take a portrait, I don’t like taking your regular portraits, I am a bit about taking portraits that are a little bit different - but, are they different?… This one here (to your? left? right? above?) it’s what I like, but, at the same time, I can shoot a gorilla… (to your left, right, below?) Maybe I could shoot you?
Maybe? Yeah, well, there you have it - Have I convinced myself that I need to start talking peoples photos for money? Am I good enough? I think I am.. but, (ain’t there always a HUGE butt!) BUT I only think I’m good enough at this stuff compared with other people that I see taking photos and charging them for that service. SO, that said, next week in the DPS assignment - we have another FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC sponsor in G-Technology, they’ve offered us a 1TB G-Tech Q drive, a brilliant four connector drive as a prize for the best photo that says “Drive” So, we shall see… Join up and submit your image from this Wednesday. (Click the DPS logo below)
Rumour has it there’s an old abandoned hospital somewhere around here that I want to go shoot in. I want to take a generator and my elinchroms - will that be too obvious?
Deactivated my facebook account today, I had to put one of the balls down - facebook shaped ball was the one.
Cutting down on blogging here for a while… Got stuff to do elsewhere…
Coming soon : My Camera / Photo gear blog
Has taken its toll on me… Actually, I decided yesterday that I have to focus on actually going out there and making myself work on the real stuff, the photography that I like to write about… I have to go shoot some. I shot some today, mucking about with my new lights - Elinchrom FX400’s.. This is what I came up with…
I’ll finish the seven day series here, infact, there (yesterday) and, when I can report in that I’ve done O.K. I will… till then, it’s just going to be reviews and photography.
I met Tim Hetherington tonight, We had a chat - albeit briefly - about him and his work over the last year… He’s been in Afghanistan with the military, filming them, shooting them, telling a story about them - and the world has recognised it, in the form of him winning the World Press Photo 2007 award - Well done, Tim.

I learned one very important lessons today… If you’re going to sign up to “agencies” know which ones are good and what you are looking for, exactly, before you go googling “photographic agencies” there are literally THOUSANDS.
So, I chose a handful and have sent some heart wrenching emails off today, with any luck - I’ll hear something back from one, or none of them tomorrow?… Who can tell?

Goals? We’ve all got goals, right? I have - I guess?… I want to be a music photographer, and, over the last couple of months, I guess I have been…
I’ve taken photos of multiple signed artists, A couple of bands - Brand New Heavies! I’ve taken photos of Henry Rollins and I’ve taken countless images away from unsigned bands playing for their little piece of “the pie”… What did I get for it? Errr, no, not this “Seven Days”
Another “Seven Days” series will start Monday, Seven Days is where I set a goal and blog about it for seven days - hopefully, the outcome being something close to the goal I set for myself.
The first Seven Days was “Being Published” and I managed a photo in a newspaper…
The second Seven Days was “Getting Accredited” and now I’m a house photographer at Indigo @ o2
This next series is all about getting one of your images sold / making something back from your photos now that you’re accredited. Don’t get me wrong - I love shooting music for music’s sake - but wouldn’t it be nice to earn a little on the side.
So - Music and shooting it = getting paid, next weeks SEVEN DAY series is what that’s all about…
Starts Monday - here!
